2/6 - Finnish Phenomenon
Liisa Ruoho in Concert
and in Master Class
Liisa Ruoho, known throughout
Europe as a consummate
performer
and teacher, will
be in Cupertino on
Saturday, February 6, for a
recital and master class.
A professor of flute and
head of the wind instruments department
at the Sibelius Academy in
Helsinki, Ms. Ruoho was a student of Severino Gazzeloni and
Aurele
Nicolet. Her personal
study of the Alexander Technique
revolutionized both her playing and
her teaching. For over 40
years,
she has taught flutists in Europe
and the U.S. how to use their
original instrument, the body, to enhance their performance
and their enjoyment of playing.
The public is cordially invited to attend Ms. Ruoho's master class as well as the recital.
Tickets are available from West Valley Music -- find details here.

February brings sweet valentines for flute lovers -- with Bay Area
concerts by acclaimed flutists Tadeu Coelho and Liisa Ruoho,
plus a hot, new CD from brilliant Robert Stallman, whose prior
California visits
have earned him many, loyal fans here.
This shortest month is long on music pleasures. Enjoy!
If Your Heart
is Baroque...
Just in time for Valentine's...Bogner's Cafe has sent us an
advance copy of Robert Stallman's newest
CD, The Nightingale in Love.
And we can confirm that it will melt the heart of anyone who has a heart. Meticulously selected
works from
the late French Baroque, this is sensuous, romantic
music you might
associate with Watteau's dreamy "fêtes galantes".
And it
will appeal just as strongly to today's lovers (and music lovers).
Stallman's performance
is right on the
mark, with the near-
miraculous
expressive
range and technical
virtuosity that make him a unique talent among
the world's top flutists.
Pardon
us if we are over
the top about this album, but once you hear it, we
think you will be, too.
The release date is the
first week of
February. Find details and listen to sound samples here.
