Roger Glenn - Lecture/Performance on Jazz and Improvisation (1:00 - 1:45 p.m.)
     Legendary jazz flutist Roger Glenn will kick off Flute Fest, performing and speaking on Jazz and Improvisation in the Main Chapel at 1:00.  Glenn's talk will interest not only flutists, but also jazz musicians and jazz fans.

Ad Hoc Flute Choir  (3:30 - 3:45 p.m. for performance at 5:00 p.m. )
     Carol Alban, composer and principal flutist with the Bay Area Chamber Symphony, conducts a workshop for musicians interested in playing with an ad hoc flute choir.  The choir will learn a short work composed by Ms. Alban, which they will perform in the main concert near the end of the day.  Bring your flute, and come play your part!
 
Introduction to Bass Flute (1:55 - 2:15 p.m.)
     Flutist and composer Polly Moller presents a session for those interested in learning about the bass flute.
 
Introduction to Contrabass Flute (2:40 - 3:00 p.m.)
     Flutist B J Conrad presents a session for those interested in learning about the contrabass flute.
 
Introduction to Native American Flute (3:00 - 3:30 p.m.)
     Jonah Mulski will demonstrate and teach the basics of playing the Native American Flute.  He will have a limited number of flutes available to use during the workshop.  If you own a NAF, bring it!
 
Introduction to Traditional Irish Flute (4:30 - 5:00 p.m.)
     Skip Healy, considered one of the world's finest fife and Irish flute artists, presents an overview of the differences between the modern and "simple system" styles of flute that he builds in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.  He covers the basic techniques of traditional Irish flute playing and provides an introduction to traditional Irish music.  Note:  Private lessons with Skip Healy are also available at the festival; for private lesson fees and information, please call (510) 333-0474.
 
Introduction to Flutes of Central and South America (2:15 - 2:30) 
    Highly esteemd, Chilean-born composer and multi-instrumentalist Quique Cruz offers a brief introduction to the flutes of Central and Souh America.
